Richmond Event Chef RSVP
Best news ever: You’re one of 24 chefs invited to participate in Indie Chefs Week in Partnership with ChefsFeed! (formerly known as Indie Chefs Week).
Please join us August 23rd to 26th for a weekend of community, friendship, and fun in Richmond, Virginia culminating in three collaborative dinner events at Brittanny Anderson’s Brenner Pass.
ChefsFeed Indie Week is as much about our chefs as it is the guest experience, so it’s completely free to attend as a participant. With help from our sponsors, we’ve subsidized airfare, hotel accommodations, and food costs, and created a full of itinerary of events for participating chefs—including culinary tours of restaurants, bars, and influential spots in the local food scene.
So much of kitchen life is about what’s in front of you; CFIW is a chance to stretch your legs, compare notes with your peers across North America, and renew your creative outlook.
Please RSVP by 11:59 PM on Monday, May 28th, by visiting: http://indiechefsweek.com/rva-rsvp. The spots are first come first serve, so don’t wait! Full itinerary to be sent via email by 8/1/2018.
REQUIREMENTS FOR ATTENDANCE (PLEASE READ BEFORE RSVP):
Expenses: We are pleased to be able to subsidize attending chefs’ flights, food costs lodging costs, and planned activities as part of the week, however, we are unable to accommodate +1s.
Time Commitment: Due to the nature of this event, all chefs must be able to arrive on either Wednesday, August 22nd or in the morning of Thursday, August 24th and stay through Monday morning, August 27th. Chefs requesting to cook on Thursday must arrive on Wednesday early afternoon and Friday chefs must arrive by Thursday morning.
Responsibilities: You will be assigned either Thursday or Friday’s collaborative dinner and will be required to create, cook, and serve one course in a 12-course tasting menu. You will also be assigned a chef to collaborate with to create and serve a course in the grand finale dinner on Sunday. To provide a different kind of food festival experience, please be prepared to present your courses to the diners and go into the dining room to interact with them.
Please see the FAQ at the bottom of this page for additional details on expense amounts we will cover, logistics around the dinner, and other details.

ChefsFeed Indie Week FAQ
What should I expect during the weekend?
You will be assigned either to Thursday or Friday’s collaborative dinner and will be required to create, cook, and serve one course in a 12-course tasting menu for 75-100 guests. You will also be assigned a chef to collaborate with to create and serve a course in the grand finale dinner on Sunday.
In order to provide a different kind of food festival experience, please be prepared to present your courses to the diners and interact throughout the dining room.
On the off day that you are not cooking, we’ll arrange dinner and tours for you to get to know your host city’s culinary scene. We will also have an off day on Saturday for all chefs, where we will schedule additional activities and a group family meal so you can spend time meeting the other chefs, learning about their restaurants, and hopefully make some new, lifelong friends.
Can I request to cook on a certain day? What if I can’t commit right away?
Yes! When you RSVP, there will be a field to request certain nights to cook, and we will do our best to accommodate those requests.
If you’re not available for the event you’ve been invited to, we do have other events throughout the year and can transfer your invite to the next event(s). If you cannot confirm your participation, but would like to be put on our “wait and see” list, please let us know and we’ll hold a spot for you as long as possible.
Do I have any other responsibilities as a participant?
Depending on the sponsors involved, we may ask you for a recipe using their products, to participate in demos or testimonials, or to post on social media . We humbly request that you do this with an open mind, as they keep this event alive (and free to all chefs!). We take great care to curate sponsors that are high quality and that most of you probably know and love already. No soul-crushing, we promise.
You will also be required to promote the event on your own social channels when ticket sales open–your voice is powerful and we want these to sell out every time! We will provide copy and images/videos you can post to your Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter accounts. This is expected.
Finally, you will be required to sign a code of conduct agreement and waiver, which we will provide along with your itinerary in a follow up email.
What is the deadline to accept the invitation?
The deadline is Monday, May 28th at 11:59 pm and you must RSVP at http://indiechefsweek.com/rva-rsvp/. Spots are first come, first serve. If you miss the deadline, we will give your spot to another chef.
Can I bring a guest or chef/sous chef/+1 with me?
You can bring as many guests as you’d like, however we will only cover the costs for your flight/lodging. If you would like to bring another chef, friend, or spouse /significant other, please see the section below about accommodations.
How do accommodations work?
We’ve reserved a block of rooms at The Graduate Hotel in Richmond. You will be staying in a double room and share it with another chef of the same gender. We will do our best to match up requested roommates and meet any other requests by the chefs. We pay for the rooms, but be advised that you will be responsible for any incidental charges.
If you need your own room (either for comfort or because you’re bringing someone), we can book it and cover half of the room cost (rental rate and taxes only). Request a single room at the time of RSVPing, and we will contact you to make arrangements.
How much of a reimbursement credit do I get towards my flight?
We reimburse up to $325 of flight costs, so we strongly encourage you to book as early as possible–we will not reimburse overages (sorry!). You must provide us with your itinerary and a receipt for the purchase to be reimbursed.
If you’re having trouble finding affordable airfare, please contact us and we’ll make it happen—and provide you with alternate airports and ideas for getting here. Please do not wait to book your flights. We cannot cover overages due to tardy flight bookings. We have searched flight costs from departure cities from all of our invited chefs and you should be able to find affordable airfare within the budget. PRO TIP: try to find and secure your tickets on a Tuesday as that is the cheapest day of the week to book airfare.
What is my food cost reimbursement maximum?
Your food cost is limited to $150 per dinner. For example, if you’re cooking Thursday and Sunday, you’ll have $300 to spend. However, please keep in mind that you are collaborating on a course in the grand finale dinner and therefore you split the $150 with another chef. You are welcome to bring prepped ingredients and proteins with you from your restaurant and submit for reimbursement up to the limit (in fact we encourage it for the first night’s dinner to limit the actual work you have to do once you arrive). In order to be paid, please save invoices and receipts.
Any additional cost incurred above your maximum will be your responsibility including checked baggage fees and so forth.
We will also provide you with a list of our wonderful sponsors and purveyors that are providing product free for the event that you may use to plan your course to its max!
How do I get reimbursed?
Please provide all receipts/invoices for food costs before the conclusion of the event and flight expenses by 8/1/2018 to firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you don’t want reimbursement, please let us know! We are donating all leftover food, travel, and accommodations budget to No Kid Hungry at the end of 2018 and any help keeping down expenses is appreciated!
If you have financial difficulty paying for your flight out of pocket and waiting for reimbursement at arrival, and please notify us in your RSVP. When absolutely necessary, we can book flights for you. Failure to attend the event after food, housing, and flights are purchased will result in you forfeiting your right to reimbursement.
How will I get around and what transportation is provided by CFIW?
We do not provide transportation (yet!). Please use public transportation, taxis, and rideshare services and do not drink and drive.
I can’t make the Richmond event; can I attend another CFIW later in the year?
Most likely. Please let us know via email that you cannot attend but are interested in another event later in the year.
About ChefsFeed Indie Week
ChefsFeed Indie Week began in 2012 as Indie Chefs Week with an inaugural dinner series at Foreign & Domestic in Austin. It was created as a way to showcase hard-working, talented, independent chefs who ran their own restaurants. Eager to build a community and create an anti-food festival, we came up with a new kind of event format where chefs could plate the food they liked for a small group of appreciating diners (instead of 1500 bites in the blazing sun), as well as learn from each other and make life long friendships.
In 2018, we partnered with ChefsFeed to take it to the next level and are putting on five events this year to bring together the best in up-and-coming culinary talent.
ChefsFeed publishes expert-powered media you can trust with the attitude and authenticity you crave. We work with thousands of the best food & beverage professionals to bring you exclusive videos and stories, and provide a new way to discover where to eat and drink based on their expert recommendations. Download our apps, visit our website, follow us on social media, or watch us on our OTT channels.
